Polydor Records - Video Compilation April '89 - Video Tape - 1989 George's long-time massist Deon Estus commenced his solo career as a support artist for George on his Faith tour. Within the tight schedule George aided Deon extensively on his début album Spell; co-writing, producing and singing backing vocals on "Heaven Help Me" in particular. All the usual Wham! crew were present including Hugh Burns (guitar), Danny Schogger (keyboards), Paul Spong and Steve Sidwell (horns). This mild mannered pop song spent six weeks in the US Top 20 peaking at Number 4 in April 1989, but did not fair quite so well in the UK where it just skimmed the Top 40. Strinkingly similar to the Human League's "Human" (a Top 10 hit on both sides of Atlantic in 1986) the music is hesitant and gentle, showing Deon's vioce to be remarkably similar to George's, although he perhaps lacks the confidence to fully 'let go' as George would on "Father Figure". The two voices blend well together in the chorus as they sing a familiar tale of heartbreak and broken dreams.
