This surprisingly rock-orientated duet developed as a result of George's participation in the Band Aid project in late 1984, where he met astablished dance artiste, Jody Watley. Jody had tentativety started her career in the late Seventies as a teenager dancing on the music programme Soul Train, and made her breakthrough as a vocalist with the American disco group Shalamar. Having enjoyed mainstream success during the early Eighties, she went on to a Grammy Award winning solo career. "Learn To Say No" occured as both Jody and George Michael were launching their individual début albums, and its unrelenting Robert Palmer beat allows the pair to strut their stuff and become rock stars for the day. The lavish sound of the heavy slap bass hook and electric power drums is entertaining but is really just a simple stomping standard - it is however George's full-on Faith-era vocals, spikily complimented by jody's unexpected rock input that makes the song "Learn To Say No" can be found on Jody's sponymous album, Jody Watley.
