This anti-marriage battle-of-the-sexes rap effectively predates the current TV series Men Behaving Badly by about a decade! Wham!'s first successful single scored instantly with the radio stations, soon achieving Top 3 status after a camp, finely choreographed Top Of The Pops appearance, which introduced an early incarnation of girlie backing duo Shirlie Holliman and D C Lee (later to replaced by Pepsi De Marque). Not only could most teenagers easily relate to the idea of a girl coming in between best mates ('Death by matrimony!'), but they were also able to adopt the dance routine when the song was played in discos. The amusing and vivacious lyrics blend seamlessly with a clean mix of funk and lightweight pop, climaxing in a vigorous, almost playground-like confrontation, pinctuated by snappy horns. A well deserved hit.
